The Trust Gap: Why $16 Trillion in Tokenized Assets Needs Document Verification
The tokenization of real-world assets is accelerating. BlackRock calls it "the next generation for markets." Boston Consulting Group projects $16 trillion in tokenized assets by 2030. But there's a fundamental problem that the industry has largely ignored: how do you prove the token represents the real asset?
This isn't a theoretical concern. Every real-world asset—a house, a share of stock, a loan agreement—is ultimately represented by a legal document. The deed proves you own land. The share certificate proves you own equity. Without these documents, there is no legal ownership—only a claim.
Current tokenization creates what we call "trust-me tokenization"—the issuer asks you to trust that the token represents what they claim. There's no cryptographic binding, no verification mechanism, no legal standing.
Real World Contracts solve this by giving legal documents cryptographic blockchain identity. The document stays private, stored by its owner. Only its cryptographic hash appears on-chain, providing immutable proof of the document's existence and content while preserving complete privacy.
This is the foundation the RWA industry needs. Without document verification, tokenized assets cannot achieve regulatory acceptance for mainstream financial use. With it, the path to $16 trillion becomes clear.
